Upon this document are the laws of the Empire of Dentora as commanded by Her Highness, Empress Victoria Shade, organized by overarching subject. It shall be noted that extenuating circumstances may alter or negate any charges presented on a case-by-case basis.
THIEVERY:Thieves, con artists, and cutpurses are to be arrested and detained by a member of the Guard or Military forces, whichever are able to catch the offender, and their victims notified if not already aware. From there, it is the victim's right to press charges if they wish, although as theft is a minor crime most sentences will not exceed one year of jailtime and a thief may not be put to death if it is the only crime they are being charged with.
MURDER:The fate of murderers in the Dentora Empire is-at minimum-to rot in prisons for a period of no less than five years. Should the murderer's crimes be especially heinous or serial, they may be subject to a maximum penalty of living burial or anchored drowning.
BANDITRY:Bandits, pirates, slavers, and otherwise brigands are not tolerated within the Empire of Dentora. Any group of such pillagers shall be treated as a hostile band, and will be given a single chance to surrender and face imprisonment. If this offer is not accepted, then a military force will attack and cut down any combatants within their band.
---On the subject of Slavery, any who are found practicing within the Empire shall be executed without hesitation. As well, if a town or village is found to knowingly harbor slaving operations, all who are aware and allow to continue such activities(taking into account their ability to actually stop them, though most anyone is capable of sending a letter to the military if nothing else) will be punished to the same degree as the Slavers themselves.
HERESY:Any actions against the Church of Dentora or one recognized by our allies, or otherwise especially deviant, is punishable by excommunication and exile at minimum, or particularly depraved examples may be put to death by any means decided justified by the crime. Heresy is, in the eyes of the law, not defined merely by adhering to a different religion, but instead by active attempts to harm or slander those officially recognized by the Empire, or the worship of decidedly unholy powers.
HIGH TREASON:Any act of violent revolution against the Crown, or betrayal to her enemies during or leading up to war, whether part of the military forces or the general citizenry, shall be dealt with by means of public execution. Additionally, if a rebel or otherwise traitor is captured during a time of revolution or war, he or she is subject to torture for information to his or her comrades or as a example.
These laws are subject to change at Her Highness' whim, and these records shall be updated as such. These laws shall be followed as they are intended, not merely written, and any attempt to take advantage over gray areas of the laws shall result in imprisonment at minimum. Additionally, while violent revolution is considered to be a act of treason, the Empire of Dentora is willing to recognize and hear peaceful and nonviolent protestors and, in extreme cases, the leader of such groups may be allowed a audience with Her Highness to constructively work out any such problems in a respectful and civilized manner.
